Barbro Hegardt paints spiritual images of Mary, Jesus and saints following early Christian traditions. This summer, Bosjökloster exhibits Barbro’s exquisite icons.
Icons are painted canons where each symbol, color, shape, line, and other elements of art have symbolic meaning. Though the painter normally does not add anything new to religious icons, they do imprint their personal touch. According to Barbro, for an icon to really be an icon, it is essential for the painter to seek a spiritual connection with the depicted. This special way of painting tells of a divine and harmonious world, lighted from within, that does not cast shadows.
