Cecilia Hedlund explores humanity’s relationship with nature through presence, walking, and working with found materials. In the exhibition, we encounter works that take their starting point in the rhythms of the landscape and allow nature’s own processes to emerge – as reflections of time, memory, and matter.
Cecilia works directly in the landscape, investigating the places she inhabits. Walking is an artistic method for her – a way of understanding the landscape. Her practice centers on the relationship between humans and nature. In the encounter with nature lies the possibility of experiencing eternal time, in contrast to the profane time that otherwise structures our lives.
The Swedish people have a cultural and historical bond with the landscape, a connection Cecilia wishes to examine. We seek out nature for peace and quiet, for exercise, and to be together. By dwelling and working within the landscape, experiencing it with all the senses and perceiving it through memory and experience, Cecilia strives to understand her own place – as well as humanity’s place at large – within the complex processes that nature itself is.
